Loreto Valenzuela
selected works at
AlegrArte – Fest der Künste
In this selection of works, the titles trace a subtle cartography of postmemory—a space where personal gestures echo inherited histories. Drawing from Latin American debates on memory and the body as archive, This visual language unfolds through traces, absences, and embodied repetitions.
Rather than illustrating a narrative, these works open an affective field in which memory is sensed rather than shown. Colors, interruptions, and gestures suggest knowledge carried across time: echoes emerging through touch, hesitation, and attention to what persists. The titles not only name the works but mark a path through a history lived in the body, inviting viewers to recognize what is unresolved, unspoken, or barely visible.

The works are presented in a sequence that emphasizes movement and trace: large-format drawings on dark paper, layered paintings, and smaller, more intimate pieces. The hanging favours horizontal lines and generous spacing, inviting viewers to read the room as an expanded drawing.
Loreto Valenzuela (born 1973, Chile) is an interdisciplinary visual and performance artist based in Freiburg, Germany. She holds an M.A. in Performance Practice and Research from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London.
Working across painting, drawing, movement, sculpture, performance and video, she develops a practice grounded in embodied research and a poetics of care. Her work often unfolds through quiet, site-responsive gestures that attend to grief, perception and ecological sensitivity.
Favouring presence over spectacle, Valenzuela creates temporary spaces for reflection and grounding. Her practice traces attentive ways of living in moments of transition and uncertainty, holding both fragility and resilience.
